Apologies for absence...

Hello there,

I am a colleague of Jurek's who has told me all about your Friday night rides.

I had every intention of joining you guys this evening for the ride down to Southend, unfortunately due to a ridiculously busy week at work and not enough sleep I'm not sure an overnight ride would not be the most sensible thing to do at the end of the week.

I hope it all goes well and you have an enjoyable ride as it looks like the weather will remain dry. I look forward to joining you in the future.

Best regards,
Paul Cooke

August FNRttC to Shoreham

I'm expecting a ride of moderate pace on easy roads. It will be a flatter ride than usual, and we'll have riders of varying speeds - so, if you're a scorcher, be prepared for some hanging around....

Gerald - thankyou for the vids.

August's Ride to the Coast

Hello all
Does anyone have any idea if the August ride will be a fast ride?  If it's not I'd like to come along. I realised I haven't been on a FNRttC for over a year now, time really does seem to fly.

Thought I might as well dump a couple of my videos from last year for those who have no idea what a FNRttC is like.

Coast Ride Fri 18 July

Hi Simon L3.

I am having a bad year in regard to joining your FNRttC. So far I haven't made one, last month being in Suffolk, though I did enjoy Annie's ride on Sunday 15 June but being in Southwold failed to make the 20 June ride to Brighton. It was fine in Southwold but I gather wet 4U.

I definitely can't make the Shoreham 15 Aug ride as I shall be with family up in Nottingham (great pitty as I will miss the grub at Paddingtons give them my best regards). Sept.12 I'm in lake Garda with Barbara, that then leaves the long ride to Whitstable Oct 1oth and the hoary November frost bite rides, I will let you know more nearer these dates. So that only leaves Fri 18 July, just b4 I go to France again for a week prior to going on the Birthday rides 2 weeks later (definitely no time for counciling). Barbara is going away with Vanessa to New Forest for weekend and I am supposed to babysit "Millie" during day on Friday so will do my best to ride. Will confirm and probably meet as usual enroute around Reigate or other convenient point.

Brighton and Coast Night Rides

May I be perhaps the first to congratulate Simon (L3, L4, L6 and what else) on this new Blog site. I have to say I was not involved in the DA when these night rides were first instigated but I did ride 3 last year and I recommend that as many C&M and DA members try at least one. The first of course is always the most memorable, preferably mid summer with a full moon, so look out for the next one Fri 20 June 08.
Simon seems to have now raised these rides to a new level and last Friday 62 riders participated from around south east England and beyond, a new record? People ask me why do I ride such events and I have to say Barbara has the same view. In short you have to be slightly mad (say no more) but you meet lots of varied and different people and even make new friends. It also widens your horizon to join other rides outside our area such as Norfolk and Suffolk where there seems to be some very lively rides and events.
The highlight for me was my first one last year, riding the country lanes of Sussex under the moonlight and seeing and hearing dawn awake and the chorus come alive, only then to be confronted with the challenge of Ditchling Beacon with the Sun arisen and Brighton down below. Unlike the BHF London to Brighton bike ride(potentially a most dangerous event with regret able fatalities in the past), the FNRttC is a safe way of travelling if you are prudent with good lights. No one is left behind and all punctures are assisted repairs.
Yes I know it is an odd thing to do and most people I speak to in the DA say it is not for them and I fully respect that. Some few however have said they would like to try so now is the time give it a go and make it more C&M + SWLDA participative if you can. Pray for good weather and be prepared to have a lie in Saturday morning when you Finlay get home train assisted.

As for the way forward for this type of event, it occurs to me that Simon might wish to roll the format out country wide (via CTC?) though no doubt similar events do occur elsewhere.
